Le Weekend: Art Deco illies for Le Weekend
Le Weekend is a range of wines launched by Karen Turner and Bruce Jack. Initially, the brief was to rework the main figures in the imagery for the wine labels. Then the client requested five additional illustrations in a similar Art Deco style, for the Le Weekend Wines website. In their own words: ‘Swiss and French railway companies produced advertising posters, displayed on billboards and at railway stations, to persuade rich folk to travel to these destinations. ‘In 1936 France was one of the first countries in the world to pass a law making paid leave for workers compulsory, so they have been happily holidaying for decades. Interestingly, there is still no compulsory paid leave in the USA. ‘In Europe, the period between the First and Second World Wars was the Golden Age of Travel.
