My Children’s Act – for children themselves to read.

Emma Attwell achieved an almost impossible feat in that she condensed the densely complicated legalese of the Children’s Act to make it accessible for children. The illustrations are mostly done by children from local schools in Cape Town.

Even younger children would understand the book if it is read to them. It is written in very simple language. From this project arose the Human Rights for Children poster, which you can view under Children’s Posters.

My Children’s Act is an amazing project.

It began when Emma Attwell distilled the South African Children’s Act into a book most children can understand.

Filled almost entirely with children’s drawings which I then digitally enhanced, it became a book that children could relate to and absorb.
