Characters

Pete

Pete who is the facilitator for this course, has the burden of looking after his younger brother who is the black sheep of the family. Pete is the favourite, and that doesn’t help his anxiety at all.

Smoking a little dope lightens the load.

Pete, character from Nothing to Fear
Olive, character from 'Nothing to Fear'

Olive

Olive has a fear of public speaking, men, and in particular, of bursting into hysterical laughter at the wrong moment.

She is very brave, coming to this encounter group, and being vulnerable. Her standby is a quick dose of the correct meds with the coffee supplied at the break.

Loyiso

Loyiso’s fears revolve around what he was told about Whites since a young age.
Nothing he has encountered since that time has changed his outlook but he would like to feel better in general towards his fellow citizens because he’s about to take up work where they will be his underlings.

Loyiso comforts himself by rocking, but because that’s caused some remarks, he makes sure to wear his headphones so he can rock on without attracting comments.

Simon

Simon

Simon suffers from PTSD after being robbed at the restaurant he was managing, many years ago. He also struggles with guilt, and is in a constant state of hyper-vigilance.

Nothing a quick line of coke won’t sort out, though.

Tilly

Passer-by, along with Willa, her fellow choir member, Tilly is addicted to carbs, constantly spiting her moody mother, who bullied and indulged her throughout her teens.

To make life bearable, Tilly soon found the comfort of the cookie jar and they’ve been very close, ever since.

Willa

Willa

Passer-by, and a fellow choir-member with Tilly, Willa goes nowhere without her hipflask, to make life less constricting. She longs for the Sixties and her life as a Bohemian.

Still, perhaps a social life through the church might help to distract her, and joining the choir to sing with her friend Tilly, is a beginning in that direction.

Andreas

A lone passer-by, wrestling with himself at the traffic light, the only dialogue coming from his three Fears, viciously attacking him.

Andreas’s way of coping with life is to make himself as small and unobtrusive as possible. As difficult as that is for a six-foot-six man, he’s in there trying.

Andreas

The Car Guard

The Carguard is an anonymous figure who turns out to be Pete’s brother.

His fears are financial, and they make him irritable. Pete helps him out with a chance to guard cars.

He also deals grass, which helps to pass the time.

The Car Guard

The Carguard is an anonymous figure who turns out to exercise a lot of power over Pete for unknown reasons.

His fears are financial, and they make him irritable. Pete helps him out with a chance to guard cars. He also deals grass, which helps to pass the time and quieten the fears at the same time. Most of the time.
