WINGHAVEN: THE WINGSTERS’ WORLD

WINGHAVEN IS A TINY PLANET ORBITING EARTH. IT IS ALSO THE HEADQUARTERS AND HOME OF OUR CELESTIAL COURIER COMPANY, LITTLE WINGSTERS.

Winghaven is a planet, floating through space, singing and reflecting earthly sounds of daily life and laughter in its ‘music’. At the core of the little blue-green planet dwells the brilliantly sparkling cloud seething with light known as Moya. Also known as ‘Dispatch’.

When she isn’t dishing out tasks to the four couriers, Dispatch assembles and distils the sounds emanating from Earth, sometimes with a full orchestral accompaniment, depending on her mood, into something rich and fine.

She has a really broad sense of what comprises music, so the sounds become a beautiful mashup of conversations, sounds from nature and everyday civilisations from all over the world.

The Slynaps tree grows straight through Winghaven, its trunk forming part of the decor of Moya’s control room at the centre. Its crown catches passing star-seeds in its feathers, forming cocoons from which new baby angels emerge.

The talent behind Moya’s singing planet

I first heard Stuart Ziegler’s music live at an exhibition by Katherine Glenday. Two musicians performed with stones, shells and various other objects from nature. Stuart then mixed these with music he composed.

I hope to collaborate with him to supply the track for Moya’s  mashups which will probably include many more everyday sounds as the planet floats through space around the Earth, emitting the Moyamusic  comprising sounds gathered from everyday life on that planet.

The Song of Wings plays out each episode, and can be used as the base for general theme music or as part of Moya’s mashups. Scorecloud is a great tool for non-musicians, like a speech-to-text app for music.

So that’s why the music awaits an expert’s touch!

THE VERY GRUMPY
GARDENER

Sometimes, Winghaven’s pet/gardener, Ignatius, eats the printouts on his way to ‘take them to the angels’. Apparently this is due to absentmindedness.

Usually he feeds off the blue green grass of the planet. If he misses out on fresh messages, he also likes fallen Slynaps feathers. In his (many) unsociable moments, he curls up for a nap or a sulk on top of the ever-patient Slynaps Tree.

The Postbox

The Postbox

Accompanied by a classic ice-cream van tinkle, printed instructions issue from the slot above the screen on this postbox which Punki found on a street somewhere far, far away. (Nobody seemed to be using it.) Videos of the children and their situations appear too, sent by Moya from her control room at the core of the planet. The Wingsters arrive into Moya's office at the core of the planet through a door at the back of this postbox.

The receivers at the end of the Slynaps roots

These receivers wave about in space, picking up the laughter, happy thoughts, hopes and fears of children all over the world.
The Keep

The Keep

The Wingsters’ apartments are located in the Keep. Each one is a magical space. Punki’s apartment has an alien cityscape outside; Inga has a Viking castle; Koko has a snug circular room (straight out of Timbuktu) with views to infinity; and a Greek temple is what Xuki has dreamed up. So the entrances to this dovecote are portals to other realities, and furnished according to each angel’s tastes.

Coco's Cocoon

Koko leaves this cocoon rather reluctantly at the beginning of the story, beginning her first day as a Little Wingster.

THE WINGSTERS’ WORLD

WINGHAVEN, A TINY PLANET ORBITING EARTH, IS ALSO THE HEADQUARTERS AND HOME OF OUR CELESTIAL COURIER COMPANY, LITTLE WINGSTERS.

Winghaven floats through space like a large speaker, playing earthly sounds of daily life in its ‘music’. At the core of the little blue-green planet dwells the brilliantly sparkling cloud seething with light known as Moya, –  ‘Dispatch’ to her couriers.

When she isn’t dishing out projects to the Wingsters, Dispatch assembles the sounds emanating from Earth, sometimes with a full orchestral accompaniment, depending on her mood, into something rich, fine and it has to be said, truly weird.

She has a really… broad sense of what comprises music, so the sounds become a beautiful mashup of conversations, sounds from nature and everyday life from all over the world.
